Cardiopulmonary Physiotherpay Chapter

Key Content

Physical activity has well-established correlates with cardiovascular risk and mortality. However, many studies have demonstrated that while exercise training programs, such as cardiac rehabilitation and pulmonary rehabilitation, yielded training benefits immediately and at least 3 months post, these benefits could not be maintained long-term. Continuing engagement in physical activity is encouraged after these programs. It has been suggested that unsupervised, continuous engagement in physical change may be achieved through health behaviour change strategies. This behaviour also applies to not only individuals with chronic conditions, but to those at-risk and to the population at large. However, evaluation of programs utilising health behaviour change strategies has yet to be fully elucidated
