Neurological Rehabilitation: Longer Term Rehabilitation After Stroke

Key Content

Stroke is one of the primary causes of disability worldwide.

Research indicates that even at 5 years after a stroke, one third are left with permanent deficits impacting on their function, 22.5% have cognitive impairment, 15% were institutionalised and 20% has had a recurrent stroke. Although the prevalence of long-term problems faced by people after stroke and their caregivers are well known, they are not consistently addressed in existing services. Longer term rehabilitation after stroke encompasses further rehabilitation, secondary prevention of stroke and re-integration into the community.

This symposium aims to discuss the components included in longer term rehabilitation after stroke encompasses - further rehabilitation, secondary prevention of stroke and re-integration into the community.
